Freelance Social Media & Community Manager

Cybernetic Walrus is an established game studio based in Antwerp. We are working on several VR titles and are developing XR experiences for a wide range of national and international companies.
As the Social Media & Community Manager, you’ll spearhead the development of a vibrant community for our physics-based puzzle game, DOES IT STACK? as well as other DOES IT games that will follow. You’ll be the primary liaison between our studio and the players, advocating for community interests within the development team. We’re looking for someone with a blend of creativity, strategic insight, a deep love for VR gaming, and a solid grasp of the video game lifecycle.
 
This is a freelance position for 1-2 days/week starting in April/May this year.
Are you up for the task?
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define our voice, approach, and content strategy for our community and social media channels for Cybernetic Walrus and our associated games.
  • Build and maintain a content calendar including but not limited to game posts, events, contests, and other community activations designed to foster, engage and inspire our community.
  • Create player-facing resources and content such as articles, blog posts, videos, and FAQs to help enhance and deepen the community gameplay experience.
    Build reports on community sentiment and other KPIs to reflect the health of our community and owned channels.
  • Own the social and community plans that support go-to-market strategies for our games and franchises.
  • Identify and empower community leaders to help foster a safe and non-toxic community.
    Stay active in our owned channels daily to know how the community feels, understand community concerns, and communicate community status to internal teams and product leads.
  • Report on areas of concern for the community, surface trending topics/threads, and share/contextualize engagement metrics.
  • Become the host of our live streams and video content, ensuring each session captivates and entertains our player community.
  • Work closely with the marketing and game development team to grow our playerbase and ensure brand consistency and alignment.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of professional experience in community and/or social media management in gaming or entertainment.
  • Deep understanding of how to measure and increase engagement in all forums, including but not limited to social channels, blogs, FAQs, live streams, and more.
  • Must be creative and have a love for games and their communities.
  • Must be an excellent writer with solid editor skills.
  • Previous experience with user moderation in a digital/online environment.
  • Familiar with online tools to track and report community and social media KPIs.
  • Have a strong understanding of social media services, mechanics, and trends, especially Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, Discord, Facebook and TikTok.
  • Strong organizational skills and an independent, self-motivated work style.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite or other visual content software

Internships

Cybernetic Walrus we periodically offer the possibility of an internship at our company! Are you up for the task? KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • You are currently following an education that prepares you to work in the games industry, a good example is the course Digital Arts and Entertainment provided by Howest in Kortrijk.
  • In general this means you know a bit more then the basics of Unity and/or Unreal engine.
  • For programmers it means you know C# and/or C++.
  • 3D artists should have a good knowledge of a 3D modeling software like Maya or Blender and have some skill with Photoshop and/or substance for texturing and materials.
  • You must be enthusiastic and have a passion for game and XR development.
